Poker Profiles: Alan Goehring

Alan Goehring entered the world of Poker for one thing: FUN. He thought playing around the tournament circuit is equally entertaining and enjoyable. He was right. However, after Alan's total winnings hit the $5 million mark, Poker proves to be more than he expected it to be. It is also very generous in terms of payback for hard work and undeniable skill.

Born on February 21, 1962 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Alan built a business career in Henderson, Nevada which has been quite successful for a time. Suddenly though, the junk bond trader and analyst find that the challenges of work fell short of his expectations and so at 37, he moved on to another industry. That is Poker. Becoming a professional Poker player is not a dream. It is passion for life and for the fun of living it that brought him into the colorful world of cards. Alan's opening salvo was finishing third at 1997's World Series of Poker No Limit Hold'em event. Nobody knew that it would be the pattern that the Poker professional is going with for years to come. But he did. For years, Alan was teased for falling short to claim the title. Then again, 2003 came and things changed instantly. He finally landed the elusive first place when he entered the World Poker Tour event for that year and pursed more than a million dollars. After that much awaited win, Alan came back to his habit of coming in second place. Then he took another big blow in 2005, taking home $2,391,550 in cash prize at the prestigious L.A. Poker Classic.

Although Alan rarely finished first place, he has earned the respect every hard-working Poker professional deserves. His accomplishments so far, including numerous final table finishes and impressive cash-ins, are nothing to look down upon. Big-name players dig Alan up not because he is easy to beat at the Poker table but because he is one entertaining opponent. Poker great Howard Lederer looks forward in going against him. Howard also has only praises for Alan's skills, especially when playing for his website.

Indeed, Alan is one great player that poker would remember for years. His unforgettable hands and impressive breaks are well documented. His positive attitude is also remarkable. It is seldom that we meet a Poker professional who is not in it for fame and fortune. Many experienced card players love hogging the limelight, sometimes even doing crazy things just to attract people's attention. But Alan is different. He plays Poker because he loves the challenge. He loves the fun.
