Poker Profiles: Freddy Deeb
Poker professional Freddy Deeb is a Lebanese. He was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon. At age 19, Freddy moved to the United States to boost his future with better education and a liberating surrounding notwithstanding. However, when the civil war broke into his homeland, he was forced to drop out of school due to shortage of funds. He lost contact with his family who was then supporting his studies. Freddy could not make a living in employment at that time because he was supposedly on a student visa so he turned to Poker. Freddy was 12 units away from earning a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Utah University. Although sad that he had to leave school, Freddy kept himself focused to stay alive.
Freddy's successful stints at Poker tournaments could easily pay his school fees but since he has been earning so much, probably more than what he can for a year of practicing as a Mechanical Engineer, he decided to stick around. With more than $5 million tournament cash ins in such a short period of time, you cannot blame Freddy for making Poker a career.
Aside from his millions of dollars, Freddy boasts of countless final table appearances, two World Series of Poker bracelets, five first place finishes and counting. He likes going through the circuit for interesting events where he can put his skills up against other Poker professionals. Freddy is mostly recognized for his colorful shirts and his serious plays. He is one tough player who definitely has what it takes to win.
One interesting footnote to Freddy's career is that he did not recognize the significance of a WSOP bracelet when he first had one. During the 1996 Deuce to Seven Draw event, the enigmatic player was just thankful that he was able to cash in after a couple of bad draws. But when he got in at the H.O.R.S.E final table in the 2007 WSOP, he knew that he will be recognized as a great Poker professional if he wins. And win he did! Freddy proved to the world that he is a name to beat in Poker.
At present, Freddy is contemplating about going back to school. Finding time for it could be a real challenge but he is always willing to try. He is also busy tending his family of four children while continuously improving his Poker skills. Freddy is currently settled in Las Vegas, Nevada where the action is!
